Weather

Yes, we do have season’s in California and it is definitely our wintery time of year. Usually (and hopefully) that means rain, which replenishes and cleanses our vineyard soils. So although a rainstorm or two may come through during your visit, they are interspersed with bright sunny days with mild temperatures. Nights tend to be quite cool, and it is not surprising to see frost in the mornings. Bundle up in layers, bring an umbrella and enjoy our “quiet season” here in wine country!

Breathtaking vistas overlook valleys and mountains studded with ancient oaks, brilliant wild flowers and magnificent vineyards. Taking a leisurely country drive allows you to fully appreciate the winemaking experience while viewing the ever changing seasons. Pruning in the winter, bud break in spring, canopy management in summer, culminates with the fall harvest. It is a wonderful discovery for any traveler! You'll find great restaurants, galleries, country inns and exceptional tasting rooms. Friendly and knowledgeable people are waiting to welcome, serve and delight you.

‘Tis the Season

The vines are sending new shoots skyward, as the vineyards begin their seasonal growth patterns. Tiny clusters have formed, and vineyard crews are shoot thinning, tucking to the trellis and awaiting that next critical point in the grapes’ development – “bloom”. At this very important stage, the clusters produce tiny flowers and self pollinate. If the weather is calm and moderate, and pollination goes well the grapes will continue on their growth path to producing berries and nice uniform clusters.

In the cellar, many wineries are bottling the first whites of the 2008 vintage and barrel aged reds from 2006 and 2007. Rosés are also making their way from the winery to the picnic table, so cheers to the season!
