The More Things Stay The Same, The More Things Change...
With the seventeen-million year old Transverse Mountain Range
opening directly to the Pacific Ocean, the only one of its
kind in North or South America between Alaska and Argentina,
what happens when you don’t “Go west, young person!”?
Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara. A 180° turn on the misconceptions
of Bordeaux varieties in Santa Barbara County.
Diversity Perfected - In One Variety
There are few, if any, grape varieties which can grow side-by-side
with Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, or any variety you can
name, and produce a wine of equal or even far greater quality
and character than Syrah. And even though there is more Chardonnay
and Pinot Noir planted than Syrah, more Santa Barbara County
wineries produce a Syrah than any other single variety. Why?
Dance With The One That Brung Ya
There is an excellent reason why Chardonnay is the number
one variety in terms of acreage in Santa Barbara County. And
also why so many other regions source their Chardonnay in SB…it
is like no other. With an inbred regional diversity of growing
conditions, bracing Chardonnays of steely lime stand right
next to ripe pineapples and papayas – with or without
oak.
