A modern Stone Age Winery!
Mention Syrah and the name Qupé will soon come up. An original Rhône Ranger, veteran winemaker Bob Lindquist was one of the first to advocate American-made Syrah and other Rhône varietals such as Grenache, Roussanne, and Marsanne. He has been a leader in the movement producing world class editions since the early 1980s. His passion for wine is only equaled by his passion for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The wines of Qupé are mainly sourced from vineyards following organic or biodynamic methods. Over 50 percent are made from grapes grown on the Bien Nacido Vineyard, where the Syrah, Viognier, Roussanne, and Chardonnay are planted and grown to Bob’s specifications. To further achieve the level of quality wine desired, in 2005 Bob and his wife Louisa Sawyer Lindquist (winemaker for Verdad Wine Cellars) developed the Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard in the Edna Valley where they planted 40 acres of Rhone & Spanish varietals. The vineyard, farmed using rigorous biodynamic methods, was Demeter Certified Biodynamic in 2009, and has earned a reputation for producing balanced wines of depth, character and richness.
The tasting room for Qupé, Verdad, and Ethan wines is located in downtown Los Olivos.
