Established in 1962 it is the oldest winery in
Santa Barbara County and was the first since prohibition which ended
in the early 1930s.
There were no vineyards, the closest over 100
miles away in San Luis Obispo County to the north. Today there are
more than 20,000 acres of grapes in the County and over 100 wineries.
Santa Barbara winery's grapes come from the Lafond
Vineyards in the Santa Rita Hills of the Santa Ynez Valley and from
neighboring vineyards. The winery produces
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah varieties that
have excelled in the micro climate of the western end of the valley
which is strongly influenced by the cool breezes from the Pacific,
the foggy mornings and the warm days.
