Winemaking is a convergence of Nature, Art, and Science. Mother Nature gives us the weather for the vintage which defines the character of the fruit. The best vineyards are sourced, the lots carefully sorted, and the grapes become wine with loving care. State of the Art equipment is used to process the wine which is aged in French and American oak barrels. The Winemakers craft is putting the pieces of the puzzle together. Ovene Winery is the culmination of a lifetime of our family’s passion for food and wine. Ovene is dedicated to my Grandmother Merthel Ovene McConnel. Granny was an inspiration to several generations who taught us the love of God, family values, traditions and a passion for food and wine. She was known as Groovy Granny as we were growing up and told us we could accomplish anything we set our minds to. She blessed this venture despite her failing health at 94 and passed away the day after we received our first grapes and bonded winery license. We are blessed to dedicate Ovene Winery to all the inspirational women in our lives. Groovy Granny always said to save the best for last.
