Refugio Ranch

Refugio Ranch is a four hundred forty acre estate located in the Santa Ynez Valley AVA of California’s Central Coast winegrowing region. Within the property, covered largely by old oak trees, twenty five select acres were strategically planted and have been well cared for by the Gleason Family to produce the premium grapes that comprise the Refugio Ranch wines.

Under the attention of Coastal Vineyard Care Associates and one of its legends, Ruben Solorzano, the vines are thoughtfully nurtured throughout the year focusing on the uniqueness of each individual growing season. This philosophy allows an authentic expression of the land and its fruit, because no two seasons are exactly alike. All the grapes are harvested by hand and only the finest clusters are selected for Refugio Ranch wines.

Winemaker Ryan Deovlet brings a unique artistry to his craft that both honors the history of this age-old tradition, while embracing a spirit of experimentation. Employing a multitude of fermentation and barrel aging techniques, Mr. Deovlet imparts a depth, complexity and poetry to every bottle of Refugio Ranch wines.

Refugio Ranch carries a century-old history of cowboys and cattle ranching. The Gleason family has opened a new chapter for this ancient land, with the promise of continuing the legacy and spirit of this unique corner of the earth. The native land has been left largely untouched but to grow the vines that the land itself nurtures and readies for harvest. It is the terroir that gives the wine its soul. With soul comes a certain connection to something ancient.
